Welcome to the Fall 2010 newsletter from the Kenwood Isles Area
Association. KIAA plays an active role representing our neighborhood with
the City of Minneapolis and organizing a number of community events. I
hope you will consider supporting the work we do and encourage you to
attend our monthly board meetings held the first (non-holiday) Monday each
month at the Kenwood Rec Center from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.
Two items stand out on the KIAA agenda this fall. First is work around the
new Light Rail system planned along the Kenilworth corridor, where
important decisions impacting our neighborhood are coming soon. KIAA has
representatives on the citizen groups working on station design and on the
impacts to our parks (see Jeanette Colby’s article on the News page). The
second is working with the city as it shifts neighborhood funding to a new
entity. During the past decade, we have directed NRP funds to assist
projects ranging from playground equipment to trees at Lake of the Isles
and Kenwood School, to funding a Minneapolis shelter for homeless youth.
We remain hopeful about the new neighborhood funding process, currently
being designed.
Please join us in keeping Kenwood Isles a great place to live.
Sam Murphy,
KIAA Board Chair
